Zhongshan Wharf which is 100 years old was essential to water transportation in Yangtze River. In decades, the growth of highway and railway transportation led to a drop in water traffic. Parts of Zhongshan Wharf had been abandoned. Architects aim to reunion the river, the city, the industrial heritage and the citizens by adding more functions related to everyday life.

Old office buildings turn into Shipping Museum. The museum entrance allows a view through the building to the river. Main escalator takes visitors to Glass Exhibition Hall below the water. Two cranes in the site were remained as supports of a big glass staircase. The staircase gives a path from the under-water exhibition hall to the upper layers, including the river, city and wharf. Alongside Terrace Garden is an outdoor theater facing Yangtze River. Below the terrace, an existing steel-structure corridor was kept as open exhibition space. Finally, the new circulation among layers awakes the sleeping industrial heritage.
